Where Demons dwell, and Banshees live

In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history. There was a nerd who whittled away his time painting tiny men, and building world's so that other nerds could play with their tiny men but not him. 

Before you behold the remains of a eons old magical stone circle. What powers may it still hold? That's a great question, one which I can not answer, but if you attend the Renegade Open this year you could find out. Not only is there just this one, but five, yes five of these that I completed awhile ago. I can not tell you how high the pile of foam shavings was from that other then inches.

Here we have another piece using some of the arcane ruin set. This should serve well as a center piece on a table. Though I plan to make it a companion which will probaly over shadow it figuratively, and literally as it will be a realm gate and also be floating in the air. Will get a photo of this plus another I've finished since at Fantasy Flight when I'm there next.

Here we see how I reinforced the columns since these are from some molds I made of the ruins when it was out of print. Now that it is being sold again I will save myself time and can just purchase it. Being that the resin was much heavier then the plastic version and going to be standing In a precarious spot I in effect pinned it to the hill using wooden dowels. This should make it least a little more durable.

The piece I'm really excited about, my first floating island. This is what the previously mentioned realm gate will be based off. This was a mock up using dowels to see where I was at, and to get a photo to put on the Internet. As soon as I get some acrylic rods in I will finish this off.

Lastly the wonders of living next to a rich kid art school. Some fool throwing this in a trash can, and I discovering it time so that it could be put to good use. Thanks to your parents kid for helping support the Renegade Open.

Realm Gate #1

I have been busy now that preparations for The Renegade Open 2017 has entered full speed with five months until weekend, and I have hundreds of terrain pieces to make. Having increased our 40k attendance to 96, and adding a 64 person Age of Sigmar event I have a lot to make, and just as much to plan for making in a large assemble line some time in early Fall. 

I want to give every fantasy table a cool center piece with at least five other large pieces, and at least every third table a realm gate. Being a long time fan of floating rocks, and islands long before they were hip I will be begin working on some of those soon. I will also hopefully by the end of year be returning to a long shelved project to let everyone know how much of an authentic floating island originality I am before all those hipsters ruined them.

First though let us take a look at the first realm gate I have finished.

The material being used is from insulation foam from a box of what I believe was sea food. While dumping garage at my apartment building I noticed an interesting box which sounded like it had foam in it. So of course I had to inspect, because I don't already have a storage unit in the basement full of foam. I wanted to use the natural shine of the foil with ghost tints, but cut the wrong corner and got some lettering on one side. So the next one I'll have to see if I can get a good section free of it. 

Here we have a scale shot. Hopefully silver tower guys will be making appearances on here sooner then later.

In progress shot before highlighting, and a finished portal effect. I airbrushed it silver, and then used a blue metallic to make the rippling effect. Sprayed it with a purple badger air ghost tint. I must have four of more layers on it to give it a good saturation.

After a few months of the blog sitting fallow I have a little back up of things to start posting between terrain so no excuses allowed on my end for not writing as I'll have more then enough now to post for awhile. 

Renegade Open 2016

It has been over a month now since the fourth Renegade Open Grand Tournament. Amazing how time flies when your not being swamped by building terrain for 38 tables, and full time college. If I had full time job as well which I've had the last three, no way I could have finished as much as I did.

This year we had X-Wing, Armada, and Malifaux Friday night, Warmachine Saturday, and Infinity Sunday. All along side Warhammer 40,000 Saturday & Sunday. All totaled 222 people came to the Fantasy Flight Game Center over three days. We are currently planning on expansion of events, both in new games, and number days for other games. With our first meeting for next year, just next week I'll leave Renegade Open 2017 for the future, and we can get to the photo dump for 2016.

Below you have day one of the grand tournament as round was getting under way.

Day two, calm before the storm.

Now we have some of the infinity tables. Most of these are personally owned by individuals who brought them for the event. The advantage of only having to worry about building and painting one table.  

The table below was one of many brought by Sean Poschel, the man running the infinity event. This was one of many he supplied. This is some of his fathers personnel collection.  

Lastly you see what it takes transport proper sized terrain for a grand tournament. Now this does not show all the Fantasy flight games terrain, and the little from other stores we used but that total was far lower then in years past. Now we just need around triple this for next year. 

And for next year I picked up a few F.A.T. Mats. 

Going into 2017 WaaaghPaca looms close, and Adepticon is less then three months out. I will also be participating in a Horus Heresy campaign starting the same weekend as Paca. So my first priority is to get my Salamanders going as they will be my army for the three previous mentioned events. 

I also hope to start working on my fantasy army as they product has sat fallow for way to long.

Lastly I will return to the Executioners, for I must as it is my life's duty to complete Vanir Hex's 3rd company. As also some crazy times are coming for the imperium, and will need aid of the Emperors heads men.

Filtering with distraction

Finally get back to the blog and throw some thing’s I have been working on up. I’ve been keeping busy besides work and school, the silly parts of life you let obstruct the important jobs to be done.

Lets start with the sidetrack into chaos, the wonders of the dark prince, and his beauties. Before work became too busy for the so called “slow period” of the year I was headed to a little hobby event called WaaghPaca. I was going to play in the warhammer 40,000 narrative event. Since there was a bulk of imperial players I decided I would build a quick Slaanesh force. The event was a 1000 points, and I have had a collection of deamons waiting for the right time. Here we have some of the Deamonettes done and others getting base coated.
